Housing Needed For Visiting Youth Choir

The saying is that everything is bigger in Texas and the Custer Road UMC Revelation Choir is a great example. The 125-member high school choir will present a concert in our sanctuary on Tuesday, June 14 and we are soliciting housing for as many of the youth and their chaperones as possible. While they are prepared to roll out sleeping bags on the gym floor and use our showers if necessary, we would like to provide homes for as many of their group as possible. Home stays have always been a memorable part of our Chapel Choir tours. Host families will need to provide breakfast on the 15th. Please check your calendar and contact Don Dunham regarding how many youth you are willing to host, if you have pets and whether you have a gender or age preference.

Tents, Tables, and Chairs

Youth In TentFor the past ten tears, our Youth InTent program has served our church and community by renting out tents, tables and chairs for graduation, birthday, anniversary and other summer celebrations, as well as neighborhood block parties, weddings and wedding receptions.

DGFUMC youth take care of delivery, set-up and take-down. In return they receive credit toward mission and choir trips.

Our prices are competitive with commercial vendors and benefit a wonderful program. Without revenue from Heritage Fest parking, our Youth InTent program is the largest fundraiser for our youth program. New York City will be the destination for the 2012 Chapel Choir Tour, so we need to generate as many funds as possible.

For prices and information please see the Youth InTent Reservation Contract at the link below.  Feel free to contact Don Dunham with any questions.

Ignite!

The Open Door

The youth group has a new name! And so does its home!

Ignite

The youth group is now called Ignite, with the goal of being the spark that starts the fire. Our hope is that being a member of Ignite will change kids' lives and move them to help change the lives of their friends. The purpose of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples for Jesus Christ. Ignite will help to do that by building community through fun, fellowship and service.

The Open Door

The youth center is now called The Open Door to show that everyone is welcome. OK, the big joke is that The Open Door is locked most of the time. As we have found in the last few months, if the door is unlocked, furniture and equipment walks off and vandalism happens. But we are having fun in The Open Door. Movie nights, two weeks of watching the Bears in the NFL Playoffs, OB classes, playing pool and air hockey.

Our latest improvement to The Open Door is to install black-out shades so the video system can be used during the day. So far the Youth Ministries Work Area has spent $525 buying them. If any one would like to help offset that cost the youth are happy to accept donations!

DGFUMC College Scholarship Fund

College

We know that this is the time of year when everyorganization is asking for donations. Well the DGFUMC college scholarship fund is doing the same thing. What is the scholarship fund and who is helped by it? Three separate funds were started over 20 years ago and those gifts have now been used up, however we continue to want to help college students. In August, we present small gifts to 4 students who have been active in ministries of DGFUMC. If each family would give $5 in honor of each of their children now and $5 on that child’s birthday, we would have thousands of dollars to give out each year. Please consider giving to this fund.
