Wesley Woods, June 28-July 2, 2010

What Is A Hero?

In the movies and fairy tales, heroes are those who leap tall buildings in a single bound, save damsels in distress, or thwart the powers of evil in climactic, spectacular battles. However, being a hero for God is different, although not nearly as dramatic.

During the time at camp, campers will consider the ways in which being a hero for God takes courage and bravery, requiring them to step out in faith and take risks for the sake of others. Being a hero calls them to trust God to use what they can offer and to equip them for welcoming, befriending, including, giving, rejoicing, and sharing the good news. Campers will leave camp knowing that it takes more courage and faith to be one of God’s heroes than it takes to simply leap off tall buildings in a single bound!

The First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove is offering a summer camp experience for children and youth. There will be three camps this year:

  • Elementary Camp-2nd-6th grade
  • Junior High Camp-7th-8th grade
  • Leadership Camp-9th-10th grade

The grade listed is the grade the student will be entering in the fall of 2010. Space is limited for all three camps.

New this year: All first time 2nd and 3rd grader campers will need a parent to attend camp (the parent will attend at no cost).

Camp will be held at Wesley Woods Conference Center in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. Wesley Woods is owned and operated by the Northern Illinois Conference.

What does camp offer?

Camp offers...

  • Children and youth the opportunity for fellowship with other children, youth and adults of the church.
  • Experience of God’s creation while exploring nature!
  • A chance to experience Christian Community and develop skills for Christian living.

Leadership Camp

This is a special opportunity for all 9th and 10th graders to learn and explore what it means to be a leader. This camp is for all 9th and 10th grade students who plan to be a camp counselor in 11th and 12th grade.

Camp Staff

Children and youth will be divided into small groups by age and grade. Each group will be led by at least one adult leader and a 11th or 12th grader or post-high school assistant. There will be small group, large group and camp wide activities. Adults and high school youth from DGFUMC will provide leadership for all activities. There will be time for Bible Study, nature, games, swimming, arts and crafts and camp fire.
