The Chapel Choir has a rich history at First United Methodist Church. It has led Sunday worship at the 9:30 Sunday morning service during the school year since 1960.

For the past 40 years, the choir has participated on a week-long Spring Break musical trip spreading God’s message in words and song to congregations throughout North America, including such places as New York City, Boston, Denver, St. Simon’s Island, Memphis, Pensacola, Nashville, Toronto, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Philadelphia, Virginia Beach, Ft. Worth, New Orleans, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Wilmington, and many communities in between.This year, they are maintaining that tradition by traveling to New York.

Choir members practice Sunday morning after the 9:30 worship service as well as Wednesday night in preparation of their Christmas Concert and choir tour. Members also give their time through fundraising and mission trip activities at church. The youth are actively involved at their schools in athletics, speech, band, choir, dance, and many clubs.

The 2011 Chapel Choir is comprised of approximately 55 students from 10 different high schools in the Downers Grove area.

The Chapel Choir goals are to:

• Share our faith in Jesus Christ through our music and witness to our faith by our music and our actions.
• Learn to participate in the leading of a Worship Service.
• Grow in our music skills through our rehearsal and performance schedule.
• Develop new relationships within our own group.
• Deepen our fellowship and spirit and develop a faith that grows daily.
• Learn to participate in and contribute to the group goals of a large, diversified group.

The Chapel Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 8:45pm.

If your child has turned 3 years of age on or before September 1, 2011, we invite you to let them join the Angel Choir.

Registration Information

The first rehearsal for our Angel Choir will be on Wednesday, September 14^th at 4:30 pm. Debbie Phillips will be returning as Angel Choir director and Dave Sandfort as the accompanist.

Your family should be receiving a Sunday School and Choir information letter soon which will include a choir registration card. If you don't receive it, please contact Andi Kinsella.

When you receive the Information Packet in August, mail or bring the registration card, along with the $10 choir fee, to the church office before September 14^th or bring to the Parlor on September 14^th between 4:00 – 4:20 pm.  Rehearsal will begin that day at 4:30 pm.

Rehearsal Information

If your child becomes very upset or disruptive, the parent helper may ask you to take your child out of the room.  One half hour is such a short amount of time, it’s very important to have as little disruption as possible.

Performs at the 9:30 and 11:00am services periodically throughout the school year. There are approximately 12 members of varying ages. The Chancel Bells have performed for several years as intermission music for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Concert.
