Walter Wink and June Keener Wink
The Powers That Be
The world is organized as a system of dominations: men over women, whites over blacks, rich over poor, powerful nations over weaker nations. Jesus inaugurated a new order, based on partnership, equality, compassion, and nonviolence. His teaching carries us beyond both pacifism and just war theory, beyond domination and the spiral of violence, beyond patriarchy and the manufacture of delusion, to remarkable possibilities, some of which may be, for the first time, within our grasp.
This seminar will explore ways Jesus' new order can be implemented in our world today. Walter Wink is an internationally recognized, inspiring, expert and author on this subject. In this course, which will involve Socratic Bible study, art, and movement, he teams with his wife June to challenge the audience to think deeply, experience the Spirit in new ways and hopefully walk away transformed.
Dr Walter Wink is Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City. Previously, he was a parish minister and taught at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1989-1990 he was a Peace Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.
June Keener Wink is an adjunct faculty member of Auburn Theological Seminary. From her background in body movement and art, she offers a unique approach to the integration of body, mind and spirit. She leads groups in movement and art activities.

The Powers That Be
"Walter Wink's The Powers That Be is a brilliant and important book. We need to take seriously his understanding that violence is never redemptive. Walter is indeed giving us a new theology for a new millennium, and if we are to make it for another thousand years we need to understand this. This is not a book of doom, but of wondrous hope."
Madeleine L'Engle
